Two Sydney high rise buildings, with waterproofing issues, became the target of Shadow Minister, Courtney Houssos’, fire recently. Since December 2020 , nine prohibition orders have been issued by NSW Fair Trading in an industry-wide crackdown. Several were found to have waterproofing defeats including balcony issues, tiles that were not properly fixed to the walls in bathrooms, and tiled floors with inadequate falls to allow for proper drainage. The recent article shows that scrutiny of defective buildings is becoming more widespread with the focus on real estate agents and their obligations.
